Stricter Limits on Food Ads Aimed Toward Children!

On Thursday the federal government proposed sweeping new guidelines on food advertisements aimed toward children. These guidelines would place restrictions on how the food industry advertises soda, cereal, ice cream, chocolate, snacks, restaurant meals, and other food to children. Citing the epidemic of childhood obesity, regulators seek to implement a range of tactics currently used to endorse foods high in sugar, fat or salt to children. According to CBC News, new findings from Yale University show, “…that cereals marketed directly to children have 85 per cent more sugar, 65 per cent less fibre and 60 per cent more sodium than cereals marketed to adults.”Essentially, regulators are requiring food marketers and restaurant companies to either make products healthier or stop marketing them to children. These include a range of marketing strategies, ranging from television ads, print ads, interactive media, product placement in movies, and the use of movie characters in cross promotions and fast-food children's meals.

125 Years of Coca Cola!

125th Anniversary

On May 8, 1886, a pharmacist named Dr. John Pemberton carried a jug of Coca-Cola syrup to Jacobs' Pharmacy in downtown Atlanta, where it was mixed with carbonated water and sold for five cents a glass.

NOW: Coca-Cola has evolved to over 500 brands. From selling 9 drinks a day in 1886 to selling 1.7 billion drinks a day Coca- Cola is more than just a household name.

In celebration of this monumental event James Jarvis, a British illustrator, has designed a set of Coca- Cola cans.

PETITES AT STARBUCKS!

In one of my recentposts I mentioned that Starbucks is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Well, in addition to the Tribute Blend and new logo Starbucks is also going to be selling a variety of delicious new pastries! I sampled them on Sunday at a meeting and they are all absolutely amazing! They are all mini pastries and all under 200 calories so they are perfect or anyone who wants to watch their weight in the coming summer months! There are four categories of these desserts: Cake Pops, Cupcakes, Sweet Squares, and lastly a Whoopie Pie.
CAKE POPS:
-Birthday Cake Pops: vanilla cake with pink frosting
-Rocky Road Cake Pop: Chocolate with marshmallows and other miscellaneous toppings
-Tiramisu Cake Pop: pretty self explanatory (my favorite Cake Pop)

CUPCAKES:
-Carrot Cake (AMAZING)
-Peanut butter

SWEET SQUARES:
-Lemon (veerrryyy lemony)
-Salted Caramel (delicious!)

WHOOPIE PIE:
-Red Velvet: (SOO GOODDDD!!)

So my favorites from the sampling are definitely the Tiramisu Cake Pop, Red Velvet Whoopie Pie, Carrot Cake Cupcake, and the Salted Caramel Sweet Square! Even more exciting news: from March 10-12 (2p-5p) with every tall beverage you purchase you receive one petite for free! Be sure to check out these and many other new products and promotions at Starbucks.com! Or even like Starbucks on Facebook!
